Need something a little more special? At Dégage you can share cargo bikes, tandems, folding bikes and the like with other individuals.

Repair shops

Have your own bike or your rental bike repaired at one of De Fietsambassade's bike points. The bike points can be found at various locations in the city. On the website of the City of Ghent you will find bicycle plans and the necessary information about parking spaces and charging points.

Public transport

As a student, you travel on public transport at a bargain rate. Both De Lijn and SNCB offer different types of season tickets.

Bus and tram

Trams and buses make it easy to get to and around the centre of Ghent. Fancy Swedish meatballs from IKEA for lunch? Tram 1 crosses the entire city to Flanders Expo. Many bus and tram lines also converge at De Zuid and the Korenmarkt. From here you can quickly discover all the city corners by public transport.

Train

Coming by train? All our campuses are easily accessible from the Gent-Sint-Pieters or Gent-Dampoort railway stations. You will also always find a bus or tram stop nearby. Prefer to come to campus by bike? At Gent-Sint-Pieters station, you will find an underground bicycle park for 2,400 bikes. At Gent-Dampoort station, too, you can easily park your bike.

Student discounts

Arrange your student discount

You go to the SNCB counter and bring:

  • your electronic identity card
  • the official certificate for SNCB, which you can find via the student portal
  • if you already have one, your MoBIB card

Car

If you come to Ghent by car, take into account the low-emission zone and the circulation plan.

Low emission zone (LEZ)

To improve air quality, the City of Ghent made the city centre or the area within the R40 a low-emission zone (LEZ) since 1 January 2020. Polluting vehicles that do not meet admission requirements such as fuel and Euronorm are no longer allowed to enter the zone. If they do, you will be fined. Beware: from 2025 the conditions will tighten, and from 2031 diesel cars will also be banned from entering the city.

Circulation plan

The circulation plan regulates traffic flows in and out of the city. It is especially vigilant for the so-called 'knips'. At these places, you are not allowed to continue driving. Those who want to go from one part to another in the city have to use the city ring road to do so.

Parking

The easiest way to park your car is in an underground car park. Ghent city centre currently has thirteen car parks. Moreover, you can check whether any spaces are available at any time.

Would you rather avoid the city centre? Go for Park&Ride: park your car on the city's outskirts and travel further by public transport.

Car sharing

Can't you get everything into your saddlebags after an extended shopping trip? Then one of the many car-sharing platforms is probably for you. Ghent is a forerunner in car-sharing. Several organisations and companies are active there.

Cambio has the most extensive offering with different types of cars and locations throughout the city.

Through Dégage, residents make their private cars available.
