Medical follow-up of your pregnancy you can provided by a midwife, a GP and / or gynaecologist.
The midwife or GP provides necessary care when you have no pre-existing disease or no pregnancy related complication. He/she works closely with a gynaecologist who you will also consult a few times during your pregnancy.
If for financial reasons you cannot afford the care of a midwife, GP or gynaecologist, there are free prenatal clinics in Ghent, at certain locations of “Kind en Gezin”.
Contact a midwife, GP or gynaecologist as soon as you are aware of your pregnancy, preferably within the first three months. Thus, the necessary examinations can be done, ensuring your pregnancy can proceed in the best conditions.
In some cities there are also Prenatal Support Centres (Prenataal Steunpunt). Here you can go for guidance and information during pregnancy.
