Does Artevelde UAS offer housing for exchange students?
We do not have housing on campus, but student houses spread all over Ghent. In these student houses, there are places reserved for exchange students. There is not a 100% capacity for all exchange students. After application, you will know whether you have a room or are on the waiting list.
Students who have found no room via Artevelde UAS, can look for a room on the private market. This can be quite a challenge. Beware of scamming: I you are in doubt, just contact us. You can find all housing information here.
Do I get a certificate of attendance and Transcript of Records after I finished Artevelde Business School?
Your home university has to send us the Certificate of Attendance which we will sign. After the official publication of all results, you will be able to download a digital transcript of records (TOR) with grades and ECTS credits.
How are classes organised?
Most classes are organised on campus, but some classes will also be online (hybrid). Your schedule will make it very clear whether you are expected to be on campus or whether you have an online class.
What happens if I fail a course during my study period at Artevelde Business School?
Exchange students are assessed in the same way as degree students. If you fail one of the courses, you will get the chance to retake your exam. Retakes are organized on campus in August.
Who will help me if I encounter problems during my study period at Artevelde Business School?
At the beginning of your semester, buddies will show you around the campus, and they are there for you if you have questions or concerns. During our welcome days, we give information on student support. It is also very easy to communicate with the international office. We are known for fast and smooth communication with our exchange students. You will be directed to the right service or person to assist you in case we cannot help you.
Will I get an Artevelde University of Applied Sciences student card?
Exchange students receive a student card for the period they study at Artevelde University of Applied Sciences. This card can be used to make copies and to borrow books from the library, but you can also get student discounts at specific places such as cinemas, restaurants, bookstores, cultural events …
Do I need a visa to come and study at Artevelde University of Applied Sciences?
Depending on your nationality, you may need a visa or permit to come and study in Belgium, Ghent. We strongly advise you to go to this website and check the procedure.
Procedures could take some time, so please start your application as soon as possible to have everything ready before the start of your semester in Ghent. Most of the documents you will need can be downloaded from the application platform (Mobility Online).
What are the language requirements?
At Artevelde Business School, all courses are English taught. You will have to work in a team, make presentations and write assignments. Exams will be written or oral. So, a very good knowledge of English is required: check our English proficiency requirements. In Ghent, you will not have to worry about the language: although inhabitants appreciate it if you address them in Dutch (the local language), everybody (fellow students, staff, shopkeepers, city administration) can communicate in English.
Can I take courses from different packages?
No, you cannot take up courses from different packages. You can only choose one package; within that package, you need to choose at least 18 ECTS and a maximum of 33 ECTS.
Do I have to attent the Welcome Days?
We expect all exchange students to attend the Welcome Days which take place the week before the official start of the academic semester. Next to the crucial practical and academic information, you will get to know other exchange students during the social and cultural activities. All this guarantees a smooth start of your semester.
What if I want to go home before the end of classes?
You need to check our academic calendar carefully. The exact schedule of all classes will be published at the start of the semester. We expect students to be on campus during the full semester. If you decide to go home earlier and you have an assessment (presentation, observation, written test, …) on campus, this will be seen as an unauthorised absence. No online options will be offered.
