About Fertility
If pregnancy fails, several medical causes can occur. Some are treatable, and others are not.
Examples of fertility treatments are:
- Intra-uterine insemination (IUI): the sperm cells of the man are inserted into the uterus of the woman.
- In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): an egg cell and sperm cells are brought together in a ‘dish’ outside of your body, so that fertilization of the egg cell can take place. The fertilized egg cell is then placed back into the uterus.
- Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI): one sperm cell is injected directly into the egg cell. The fertilized egg cell is then placed back into the uterus.
- Egg cell or sperm donation: a donor egg cell or donor sperm cells are used in methods described above.
