Depending on your choice, and depending on the course of pregnancy and delivery, you can prefer to deliver at home with a midwife or GP, or either in the hospital. In the hospital, midwives assist you while the gynaecologist conducts the delivery. The place of birth should have been discussed during your pregnancy already.
Additional support during childbirth can be provided by a so-called doula... The doula stays by your side during labour and tries to create a warm and familiar environment to make you feel comfortable. A doula is not medically trained and is not in charge of the labour or delivery.
