Talents of outliers untapped!

Learning, working and leisure too often remain within a certain life phase (respectively by young people, adults and pensioners), with the competences and talents of these age groups not being sufficiently exchanged or transferred.

The classic divisions between the life phases remain structural and top-down. Within those phases of life we also see that there are 'outliers', citizens who fall outside the system because of the lack of a diploma, work, hobbies or free time.

Lifelong learning in a self-developing ecosystem

With this project, we want to explore and map out through practice-oriented research which conditions and preconditions (e.g. support, employment law, valorization of talents, common language, etc.) are necessary to be able to set up self-developing ecosystems at a local level where various stakeholders (schools , profit/non-profit companies, governments, associations, training providers, associations, citizens,...) are connected with each other to make lifelong learning possible. And what means that this system can remain self-developing in the long term?

Do we all speak the same language?

We also want to check whether the many initiatives that already exist in relation to lifelong learning are aligned and connected to each other. Do they speak the same language, use similar methods and validate the acquired talents? If not, can an ecosystem or community help?

This PWO research lasts one year and is part of the transition priorities within the "vision 2050" of the Flemish Government. The project team is composed of two expertise networks of Artevelde University College: Business & Management and People & Society.
