Geography, history and other business subjects: colleagues make the bridge
In this PWO project, the possibilities and concrete implementation of the new attainment targets and curricula for the subject disciplines geography, natural sciences and engineering from the first grade of secondary education were studied within a first line of research.
Initiated by the reformed curriculum of Catholic Education Flanders (henceforth abbreviated as KathOndVla), in which schools can choose the subject 'Nature, space and technology' -which includes an integration of natural scientific, geographic and technical content and skills-, it was investigated in which way an integrated curriculum for science education can take shape. An extensive international literature study, classroom visits and interviews with teachers resulted in a vision and inspiration guide on cross-curricular teaching in science education. This guide offers teacher teams and school boards a handhold and supports them in their quest for innovation using a cross-curricular curriculum. In order to show teachers even more concretely how such a curriculum can take shape, a number of didactic approaches with accompanying teaching materials were also designed for the new subject 'Nature, space and technology' at KathOndVla.
Within a second line of research of this PWO, it was investigated how the new citizenship competences can be developed. For each citizenship goal in the history subject at KathOndVla, a lesson sheet was drawn up, based on the necessary literature.
