Online help: research and development
Social workers and healthcare providers mainly communicate face-to-face. However, in our digital society, health and welfare services should not ignore online opportunities. On the contrary, online tools such as chatting, e-mailing, online diaries, self-tests, ... enhance help and care.
Online assistance research line
Arteveldehogeschool's research line 'online assistance' is developing a triple track here:
- In close cooperation with the field, online tools are being developed. Among other things, we focus on:
- Ch@tlas - a methodology for chat help in front-line welfare work;
- Ch@dvice - a European elaborated methodology for chat help with a focus on sexual abuse;
- Optim@il - a methodology for email help in front-line welfare work;
- WWWelzijn 2.0 - an exploratory study on the use of social networking sites in welfare work;
- Online diary - an online follow-up tool for clients in welfare work, childcare, education and mental health;
- Simba - successful implementation of image calling in outpatient care;
- HINCL - methodology for clear and inclusive communication (with a focus on parenting).
- Policy-oriented research projects are set up to support online help policy in Flanders. Central to these are:
- Support, dreams and thresholds for online help in Flemish welfare work - with a description of online help applications, an inspiration framework for quality criteria for online help and a user survey on online help tools;
- Building blocks for a Flemish online aid action plan - with a definition of online aid, an overview of online aid offers and plans in Flanders and recommendations for a Flemish framework for online aid policy.
- Advice on vision on blended support for children, young people and families - together with SAM (Steunpunt Mens en Samenleving), we supervised an advisory group commissioned by Opgroeien to formulate 20 advices and 64 actions on 'vision on blended support for children, young people and families' and the position of an online offer within this.
- A service offer for considering and implementing an online help offer in welfare organisations. This includes:
- onlinehulp-apps.be an appstore for well-being and mental health of which Arteveldehogeschool is project leader;
- Learning networks on 'social work networks online';
- Training on online help options and policies;
- Experiential benefit research among clients and social workers on how they experience and evaluate online help communication.
