Mapping data literacy in Flemish education

This co-funding project with Smartschool focuses on the data literacy of users of learning analytics tools. We map the competences that teachers, leaders and support staff, such as care staff and quality coordinators, need to read, interpret, process and, most importantly, use school data to optimise student learning and adjust school quality policy.

What promotes and hinders working with school data?

To this end, we examine the needs in this area among the various actors, and which factors promote or hinder working with school data. Specifically, using the Smartschool Analytics tool, we examine what teachers, managers and support staff are already doing today with the available data and how they experience this.

Data literacy report and tool

In a first step, the project will result in a report addressing all the above issues. Then, based on this, a tool will be developed to promote data literacy in Flemish education. The results of this research will also help the developers of Smartschool Analytics to optimise their tool where necessary.
