It achieves very good results in the short term, mainly due to the use of self-managing teams and a great focus on the product. However, it has little regard for the team members' long-term career aspirations and opportunities; structural HR policy is lacking.

The Scrum Talent Kit aims to offer a modular and accessible solution for this. With the kit, the concept of 'talent' (Dewulf) is used to facilitate a dialogue between employee and manager, where the process has analogies with the scrum methodology. The kit was created through design research (human-centered design) with the cooperation of ten companies . The kit focuses specifically on small businesses in the creative sector of Flanders, such as start-ups. The intention is that scrum teams and scrum team members within those companies can apply this kit within their scrum process, in order to ensure the long-term development of the team members.

The Scrum Talent Kit contains five components:

  1. A  short manual to quickly familiarize yourself.
  2. business scan to identify the required talents in your organization or team.
  3. growth spurt document containing three forms that can be completed on paper or with a PDF reader:
    1. interview preparation by the manager;
    2. interview preparation by the employee;
    3. a result form with kanban cards.
  4. template that can be used for a personal kanban board.
  5. A set inspiration cards (soft skills, hard skills, some blank) in A4 format, in SRA3 format and individual to print yourself.

Valorisation

In the Scrum Talent Kit project, a scrum-style HR tool was developed. The original project mainly focused on small ICT and web development companies, such as startups, that use scrum in the Ghent region. This valorisation process aims to expand this audience to similar companies throughout Flanders that do not necessarily use scrum. We have discovered that the world of scrum is not black and white: many companies do not use scrum according to the letter, but only extract a few principles from it. The kit can also offer a lot of added value for these companies. In addition, the possibilities for commercialization and services are being explored, such as consultancy during the implementation and luxury versions of the kit.
