Artevelde UAS wins title of ‘Young Entrepreneurial University of the Year’
At the Triple E Awards in Lisbon, Artevelde UAS was awarded the title of ‘Young Entrepreneurial University of the Year’. This award ceremony is organised annually by the Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial & Engaged Universities to encourage entrepreneurship in higher education. 'This is a trophy for all our enterprising students and colleagues who helped to make this possible.'
Five European universities of applied sciences and universities were selected from all participants and had a chance to win the title. The jury assessed them on criteria such as entrepreneurial culture, leadership, integration of entrepreneurship in the curriculum, and the impact of initiatives. Artevelde UAS received the highest score and thus was awarded the title.
'A jewel in the crown of our UAS that has made great efforts for entrepreneurship in the past 15 years. And we will continue to do so!', says Margot Vanden Bossche, Entrepreneurship Coordinator at Artevelde UAS. 'Enterprising is in the DNA of our UAS, and you can tell: the majority of the programmes has a course on entrepreneurship. Additionally, lecturers often refer to us if a student has an innovative idea for their graduation project.'
Enterprising at Artevelde UAS
Entrepreneurship is encouraged in all Artevelde UAS programmes. Students can do an internship in their own company and get support with a student-entrepreneur statute. Via Gentrepreneur, all higher education institutions in Ghent join forces to support student-entrepreneurship.
'We continuously adapt our offer for entrepreneurs, just like a start-up company does', says Vanden Bossche. 'First, every educational institution had a separate centre for entrepreneurship, but this was not very efficient. That is why the founders of Gentrepreneur decided to enforce this partnership and to be the point of contact to help all students and researchers from Ghent with an interest in entrepreneurship. Further, we make a lot of efforts for enterprising education within our UAS with new initiatives. But we are mainly renown for our personal approach and support for students who combine education and enterprising.'
