Experience a museum virtually with your class

How can you better inform primary and secondary education students about the changing world we live in than in an innovative, modern and visually attractive way? The ART project connects the virtual reality methodology with global citizenship and arts education.

Cause

Due to the corona pandemic, less travel was possible. School trips were and are no longer so obvious. In addition, pupils and schools do not always have the opportunity (time), interest (mindset) and resources (money) to physically visit multiple locations in a short period of time.

Target audience

The ART project makes part of the international museum world and other cultural and religious institutions accessible to a Europe-wide target group: pupils from eight to sixteen years. The ART VR method opens up the museum world to them. In the ART project, we also teach students to think critically and form an opinion. Matters which, in addition to all other school subjects, are essential to teach in primary and secondary education and which are currently not sufficiently innovatively addressed in the classroom (COELEN, R. (2015), An internationalization chain from primary education to global citizen and professional field) .

How does such a VR class trip work?

VR simulates a 3D world and makes it seem as if we are 'really' in another place without leaving the classroom. Through various recordings of materials from museums, (temporary) exhibitions, historical, religious and other cultural buildings, the pupils get a very detailed image that can be used in the classroom. Moreover pupils are also challenged with assignments and receive extra explanation. In this way they also gain insight into their own active contribution to global citizenship.
