Getting young people to move more in your secondary school? Start with HIIT@SCHOOL!
HIIT sessions are low-threshold, short, interactive exercise sessions in street clothes and with limited materials. In collaboration with first grade secondary students, teachers and other stakeholders, a HIIT@school toolkit was developed for teachers to get started right away.
HIIT exercise sessions
HIIT stands for high-intensity interval training. These are approachable, short, interactive four-minute exercise sessions in plain clothes and with limited equipment. Ideal as an exercise snack!
Why is exercise important for students?
Several studies show the positive effect of physical activity and the negative effect of sedentary behavior on mental health in young people. To date, there is a lack of use of lifestyle interventions to improve mental health.
Offering HIIT sessions that promote physical activity and reduce sedentary behavior and implementing them in a school setting are an effective method to improve mental health in young people.
HIIT@SCHOOL toolkit
