Lab Internet of Things (IoT): enhancing customer experience with smart technology
In the Internet of Things (IoT) lab, we experiment with applications in the field of the Internet of Things. We experiment with smart technologies in the retail environment with a specific focus on integrating sensors in displays and product packaging.
In short
We investigate how Internet of Things (IoT) technologies can be applied in retail environments through sensors embedded in displays and product packaging. Together with partners, we develop and test smart solutions that strengthen the interaction between consumers, products and retail settings. The research focuses on retailers, brand owners and organisations seeking customer-centred innovation.
Need and relevance
Retailers and brands are increasingly looking for ways to inform, engage and empower consumers during the purchasing process. At the same time, they need better insights into consumer behaviour and preferences. Although smart technologies offer opportunities to address these challenges, further knowledge is needed on how such solutions can be designed and implemented effectively to create value for both consumers and organisations.
From approach to impact
Within the IoT lab, we develop prototypes with embedded sensors in displays and packaging. We collect and process sensor data and combine these insights with user research to evaluate the effectiveness of the communication materials developed. This research contributes to knowledge on smart retail technologies and sustainable packaging solutions. The outcomes can support enhanced customer experiences, greater consumer engagement and better-informed decision-making for retailers and brand owners.
