Industrial hemp is an eco-friendly and fast-growing crop that has received renewed attention from various industrial sectors in recent years. Interest from the construction and manufacturing industries is growing for applications with hemp such as insulation materials, composites, or textiles.

The new VlAIO project Living Lab Hemp+ therefore aims to further emphasise the potential of this crop among both farmers and industry and to change the general thinking around hemp. By bringing together actors from different parts of the value chain in one large vibrant hemp community, a living lab, the project aims to:

  • encourage and facilitate hemp cultivation in Flanders and beyond;
  • encourage and support, through cocreation, the development of innovative and bio-based products using hemp;
  • as well as demonstrate the positive impact on the value chain.
