In short

This action research project strengthens health promotion and disease prevention in Flemish psychiatric hospitals and care facilities. A digital self-audit tool and an inspiring guide help organisations develop effective policies on physical activity and general health.

Need and relevance

People receiving psychiatric care are often less physically active, despite the proven benefits of movement on both mental and physical health. However, health promotion is still insufficiently embedded in these settings. This project responds to the pressing need for practical tools and policy recommendations to structurally support preventive care.

From approach to impact

The project develops quality criteria and success factors for movement policy, integrated in a self-audit tool and inspirational guide. All Flemish facilities can use these to conduct a baseline measurement and improve their policies. Six pilot organisations will take part in action research. The results will be translated into policy recommendations and good practices to support sustainable change in mental healthcare.
