Supporting families in vulnerable neighborhoods through the commons approach
Citizen initiatives are "hot". In various domains, we see citizens joining forces and organizing themselves. This ranges from local sharing initiatives in mobility, nutrition, gardening, to real cooperatives in which citizens organize their own housing initiative or energy supply.
Citizens' initiatives provide an answer where the government or the market fail. Citizens' initiatives have the advantage of being dynamic and short on time: citizens create and implement solutions tailored to local possibilities and needs.
Currently, citizens' initiatives are often still a middle-class phenomenon, while it is precisely the more vulnerable groups in society that could benefit from their structure and possibilities. In this exploratory research project, we explore how citizens' initiatives can be a way to strengthen families in vulnerable neighbourhoods. To find out, we explore operation of existing (international) good practices in this field and conduct interviews with experts (both academics and field workers).
