Why?

It is impossible to imagine the healthcare sector without technology. For organisations, it is not easy to make a choice from the range of technical solutions on offer. In addition, it is a major challenge to get healthcare professionals to use this technology and to integrate it sustainably into the work field.

To make it sustainable and affordable for organisations, we teach healthcare professionals to develop their own technological applications tailored to their clients.

What?

Arteveldehogeschool has developed MSST-VR. This is the offering of multi-sensory storytelling (MSST) enriched with virtual reality. It is a form of reminding whereby a short story supplemented with various stimuli is offered. This form of therapy is aimed primarily at people with limited physical and communicative abilities, such as people with dementia or a mental disability.

With this project, we want to support organisations and individual care professionals in learning to develop MSST-VR stories tailored to their clients' needs and in adequately integrating them into their daily operations.

In addition, we are developing other uses of VR that healthcare professionals can tailor to their clients' needs. These include group reminiscence, anxiety reduction, distraction and relaxation.

How?

Through co-creation, we will create the necessary tools and forms of support to enable the implementation of client-centred VR. In addition, we will investigate whether our approach of teaching healthcare professionals to develop digital applications themselves can be applied to other technological solutions.

With whom?

We work mainly with healthcare professionals who work with people with intellectual disabilities or elderly people. However, we notice similar challenges for health professionals working in mental health care or rehabilitation centres.

For whom?

Organisations that are interested in sustainably integrating new technological applications into their daily operations.

Healthcare professionals who are motivated to develop their own technological applications of VR, given the appropriate support.
