In short
The iSTEM-inkleuren project supports secondary school teachers in implementing STEM didactics and translating new final objectives into classroom practice. The focus lies on the first grade of general and technical education, with a progressive rollout in vocational education. The approach is interdisciplinary, language-sensitive, and adaptable to diverse classroom contexts.
Need and relevance
Teachers often struggle to transform abstract STEM goals into meaningful classroom strategies. This is particularly urgent in the first grade. In addition, the superdiverse classroom demands a language-oriented approach to give all pupils equal opportunities. iSTEM-inkleuren addresses this challenge by offering targeted and practice-based professional development.
From approach to impact
The inter-associative team offers a wide range of professionalisation activities for secondary education. These include in-service training, coaching of teacher teams, and support for schools and school communities. The project also disseminates STEM projects and explores emerging challenges related to the implementation of final objectives. Through Teacher Design Teams (TDTs), teachers co-develop STEM lessons rooted in problem-based, inquiry-driven and collaborative learning. In this way, the project fosters inclusive, sustainable and effective STEM education across Flanders.
