Language stimulation competences in preschool education
Quality language-stimulating interaction in kindergarten is essential for the development of preschoolers. What competences do (student) teachers have to realise language-stimulating interaction? What are the effects of a blended professionalisation initiative on this?
Importance of language-stimulating interaction
The quality of language-stimulating interaction in the preschool classroom has a significant impact on preschoolers' academic language proficiency. Quality language-stimulating interaction is crucial for school language proficiency and school success.
Insufficient quality interaction
Yet a lot of research points to the relatively poor quality and low quantity of language-stimulating interaction in the preschool classroom. These are even lower in interactions with vulnerable children. So there is still a lot of growth potential here for creating a powerful language learning environment.
Blended learning professionalisation intervention
This project aims to anticipate the needs of school actors by developing an evidencebased blended learning professionalisation intervention that strengthens language stimulation competences.
This professionalisation is aimed at both preschool teachers and student teachers in the preschool teacher training programme.
Research and valorisation
The project breaks down into a research and valorisation part that are strongly intertwined:
- Research
- status of language stimulation competence
- effects of the professionalisation initiative
- Valorisation
- development of the professionalisation programme
- optimisation based on the research findings of the professionalisation programme.
The integration of research and valorisation leads to an evidence-based professionalisation initiative.
