Cookie policy

What are cookies?

Cookies are small data or text files that are installed on your computer or mobile device when you visit one of our websites. The cookie file contains a unique code that allows your browser to be recognized during your visit to the website or on subsequent, repeated visits. Cookies may be set by the server of the website or application you are visiting, as well as by third-party servers that may or may not cooperate with this website. Cookies cannot be used to identify individuals; a cookie can only identify a device.

Who places these cookies?

Arteveldehogeschool uses two types of cookies:

  • First-party cookies: these are necessary technical cookies used by the visited site itself and whose purpose is to make the site function optimally, for example by keeping track of your language settings or form preferences.
  • Third-party cookies: these cookies are managed and placed by a third party during your visit to an Arteveldehogeschool website.
    • Google Analytics: we consult the user statistics of our website via Google Analytics. For this purpose, a number of cookies are loaded when you visit the site. These tracking cookies allow us to track how many visitors visit our website and collect certain demographic data. These statistics give us insight into the use of our website and allow us to improve it for the end user.
    • Advertising cookies: third parties such as Facebook can place cookies on Arteveldehogeschool websites so that their advertising services can be used. On this basis, we can show you customized ads on these platforms, tailored to your age/region/interest... For this we refer to the privacy policies of these parties.
    • We use Hotjar in order to better understand our users’ needs and to optimize this service and experience. Hotjar is a technology service that helps us better understand our users’ experience (e.g. how much time they spend on which pages, which links they choose to click, what users do and don’t like, etc.) and this enables us to build and maintain our service with user feedback. Hotjar uses cookies and other technologies to collect data on our users’ behavior and their devices. This includes a device's IP address (processed during your session and stored in a de-identified form), device screen size, device type (unique device identifiers), browser information, geographic location (country only), and the preferred language used to display our website. Hotjar stores this information on our behalf in a pseudonymized user profile. Hotjar is contractually forbidden to sell any of the data collected on our behalf. For further details, please see the ‘about Hotjar’ section of Hotjar’s support site.

How long do these cookies remain active?

Depending on their nature, these cookies remain either temporarily stored in your browser (session cookies) or permanently (either until their expiration date is reached, a new cookie overwrites them or you delete your cookies yourself through your browser settings).

How do I disable the use of cookies?

We use cookies to keep statistics and to improve or facilitate your visit on our website. We therefore recommend that you keep cookies enabled in your browser.

If you prefer not to, you can disable cookies permanently or temporarily via the options management of your internet browser.
