Artevelde University of Applied Sciences hopes you will enjoy your stay in Ghent. You can find everything you need to know about student housing here.

Artevelde UAS has a different accommodation application process for degree-seeking students versus exchange students.

Student houses

Artevelde UAS has four student houses of its own in the heart of Ghent, close to the campuses. We also collaborate with Upgrade Estate, which means we can offer rooms in Bro UpKot, Ter Plaeten UpKot and Baudelo UpKot.

Housing for exchange students

As an exchange student, you will study for one term in Ghent at Artevelde University of Applied Sciences as part of an exchange program (Erasmus or ISEP). Therefore, you will not get an Artevelde University of Applied Sciences diploma.

Rental period

There are two different rental periods you can sign up for, depending on when you’ll be studying in Ghent.

  • The 1st term or fall semester rental period starts Friday, September 13th 2024 and ends Monday, February 3rd 2025 (4,5 months).
  • Friday February 7th 2025 of and ends at July 3rd 2025 (= 5 months).

Rent is due for the whole period, even if you stay for a shorter period. It’s impossible to stay for more than one term in student accommodation as an exchange student. It is however possible to stay longer during the summer break (July and August). Please get in touch with the Housing Department if you’re interested.

Prices for the academic year 2024-2025 you can find in the brochure.

When choosing a double room or a duo studio to share with a friend, both students need to apply and need to fill in the name of their friend as ‘roommate’.

We would like to emphasize that we offer housing to degree-seeking students for a maximum of one academic year. This is to reduce the risk of scamming, which is higher when seeking housing on the private market from another country.

Once you have been accommodated in one of our student homes, it is easier and safer to search for housing on the private market for the next academic years.

In exceptional cases, you may rent for more than one academic year. If there are still some student rooms available after our usual allocation period, and you have already rented for an academic year, we can offer a student room that is currently available.

However, we can never guarantee this entirely. You will be informed in a timely manner if this is the case. Feel free to contact us for more information.

Renting on the private market

If you want to rent a student room in Ghent, we advise starting your search on the private market as early as possible. This is because the demand for student rooms is more significant than the supply in our city.

The rent price in Ghent averages from €400 per month for a standard room to €700 per month for a studio with bathroom and cooking facilities (utility costs included). Before signing the lease agreement for the room, make sure you know if there are other extra costs or final settlements (e.g. gas, water, electricity, internet, maintenance, etc.).

The landlord will probably ask you to pay a security deposit before the start of the lease. The amount is maximum equal to two months' rental fee. Your security deposit will be refunded at the end of the lease if the room is in its original state. You can pay the security deposit through international transfer (use the IBAN and BIC or SWIFT codes).

Good (and reliable) websites to find student housing:

SCAMMING! Be aware of internet fraud, especially when you find an offer via social media. In case of doubt, don't hesitate to contact the Housing Department in advance. If the offer is too good to be true, it probably ISN'T true.
