Student Services

The Office of Student Support (Stuvo for short) helps you with almost everything. Only studying and taking exams is something you still have to do yourself. You can always come to us if you need financial support to pay for your studies, psychological or medical assistance, or have questions about renting a room in Ghent.

What can we do for you?

Stuvo is your confidential point of contact for personal problems. No question or concern is too big or too small. Is it not yet clear what you need? Then, we can explore this together. Talk about your worries. You are not alone.

We listen

Students can turn, free of charge and with full confidentiality, to the stuvo employee on campus with every personal concern or question.
Some examples are loneliness, fear of failure, procrastination, stress & anxiety, panic, depression, worrying, low self-esteem, substance use problems, relational problems, gender-related and identity questions, ... In case you are concerned about a friend, you can also contact us.

We help you clarify what you are struggling with and what you need.  In addition to listening, we also offer tips and information. Maybe this first talk will help you further. We will look for the most suitable and desired guidance if more is needed.

A warm referral

The stuvo employees have an overview of all possible support for students. This support is very diverse. You can, among other things, be referred to a group training or workshop for students, e-health, peer contacts and/or psychotherapy within or outside Artevelde University College. We work closely with a network of expert care providers and believe it’s important to aim for a good match with a care provider. In all of this, your question and pace are always central.

Good to know: we are bound by professional secrecy. We therefore only share information about you with third parties after your explicit consent.

How does it work?

It is best to make an appointment for a first meeting. This way we can listen to you in peace and discretion. You can also just drop by during the open hours, but keep in mind that we may be disturbed.

Cost

A meeting with your stuvo employee on campus is free of charge.

For the training courses and workshops you pay an average of 2.5 € / session. You can find the cost price in the stuvo calendar. If you are referred to a stuvo therapist or ELP (first-line psychologist), the cost price is €11/session and €4/session with an increased allowance. A referral depends on availability and expertise. For an external psychologist or psychotherapist, the average cost price is €65.

Are you hesitating to go into counseling because you think you won't be able to afford it? Discuss this with the Stuvo employee, because sometimes Stuvo can cover part of the cost price.

Alcohol and drug prevention

Partying is part of student life, but when does it become too much? When does it become a problem or an addiction?

The following websites offer support on specific topics:

Do you feel like you need a private chat? Please contact the stuvo officer of your programme.

Report transgressive behaviour

Transgressive behaviour

Transgressive behaviour occurs when someone no longer feels safe or respected because personal boundaries are crossed. This can include, for example, (cyber) bullying, unwanted sexual advances or remarks, physical or verbal violence, discrimination, intimidation, threats, stalking, (emotional) blackmail, hateful or racist or sexist statements, etc.

Artevelde UAS doesn't condone this: our students and staff's dignity and physical integrity always come first.

Ombudsmedewerker

Our 'ombudsperson' is there for all your questions concerning education and exam regulations, the fair proceedings of exams or what to do when you miss an exam. When you disagree with your teacher, you can also knock on their door.

You can find the contact details on Mijn Dinar.
