Young people live in a visual and information culture; every day, they are confronted with a large quantity of images that reach them through various channels. How does this influx of information affect them? To what extent can they assess the reliability, usefulness, and accuracy of this information? With the project 'Critical Observers,' Artevelde University of Applied Sciences, together with meemoo, aims to stimulate critical awareness through historical audiovisual sources.
In the past 2 years, 70 organizations and local authorities received a grant from the Department of Culture, Youth, and Media to develop their youth infrastructure in a high-quality manner based on principles of sustainability, participation, collaboration, etc. The Vrijplaats team is researching the approach and guiding these organizations in the development of their projects.
