Arteveldehogeschool launches new Degree in Transport and Logistics

Business and Management

At the start of academic year 2022-2023, Arteveldehogeschool will offer a new two-year graduate programme: Transport and Logistics. In two years, students will prepare themselves to become logistics managers of a warehouse or transport planner. Those already working can spread the training over at least three years via distance learning.

Typically, the graduates of Arteveldehogeschool are firmly anchored locally. In the mainly East Flanders working field, the demand for logistics profiles has been very high for some time. "Thanks to our good contacts, we know that especially logistics managers of a warehouse and transport planners are in high demand," says Sophia Pasbecq, workplace learning relations manager at Arteveldehogeschool. "The choice for the two majors of the new graduate, Warehouse Management and Road Transport, was therefore quickly made."

The programme of the two-year programme in daytime education is modular with blocks of 9 weeks each. In the first year, 6 weeks of classes on campus are followed by a 2-week period of workplace learning; in the second year, 8 weeks of workplace learning follow 8 weeks of classes. This is followed by an intervision and feedback week each time.
Those opting for distance learning process the subjects mainly in self-study, with digital study materials and assignments. There are regular online and physical contact moments. Workplace learning is spread throughout the academic year.

"Workplace learning offers numerous advantages," says Kristof Punie, team leader of graduates of the expertise network Business and Management at Arteveldehogeschool. "Students gain practical experience from the start, while companies can call on immediately employable workers and even train their future employee together with us. This interaction, so-called exchange learning, is particularly valuable."

Katoen Natie applauds

Workplace learning is also proving very popular with employers. "We operate in 40 countries and employ more than 18,000 people," says Sabine De Mits, hr manager at Katoen Natie. "Our continuous growth requires the recruitment of a lot of skilled workers. We therefore welcome the creation of the new Transport and Logistics graduate course, as this will soon allow operational specialists in logistics to graduate. We are already looking forward to the first workplace students."

After the graduation, various advanced courses are possible for those who want to continue their studies. "For example, students can choose the other major via a shortened route and put two diplomas in their pocket," Pasbecq adds. "We also organise refresher courses and study days under the aegis of the graduate, such as the new refresher course to become a customs declarant."
Transport and Logistics classes take place at Campus Kantienberg in Ghent. Specific prior knowledge is not required.
